Home of the dukes of Atholl, this is one of the great historic castles of Scotland. Dating from 1269, it saw many alterations before it was finally turned into a Georgian mansion. Plan to spend about 2 hours viewing the palace's antiques, 18th-century interiors, and paintings, along with an outstanding arms, armor, and porcelain collection. After viewing the castle, you can stroll through the Victorian walled garden and take a long walk in the parklands.
