Plains Bed and Breakfast Inn ReviewBuilt in 1910 by a Baptist preacher, this place provides the only conventional lodgings in Plains. It sits adjacent to the trailerlike building that houses the local sheriff, two doors away from a service station that proclaims its enduring association with Billy Carter. The inn is an odd mixture of small-town virtue and religious revivalism. Its best feature is the spacious veranda for porch swinging. Most of the inside, however, is old-fashioned. Each guest room is well maintained and equipped with a tidily kept bathroom with a tub/shower combination. Miss Lillian and her new husband occupied one of the upstairs bedrooms around the time the future president was conceived. A sign in the upstairs hallway obliquely refers to this portentous event in ever-so-polite phrasing. During Carter's term, some of the most visible figures in American media slept here. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
