German emigrants Manfred and Michaela Landwehr opened the Belvedere more than 2 decades ago. It’s grown over the years, but always kept to its mission of providing clean, cozy rooms at a reasonable price. In the newer rooms in the annex a bit uphill from the original hotel, you’ll find a larger pool and more exuberant gardens. In fact, these gardens join wild forest and are occasionally visited by troops of howler and spider monkeys. No matter the location, rooms are well-kept and many feature a yellow hand-painted wash effect that serves as wainscoting. Large, filling breakfasts are served at the main lodge, where you’ll also find a second, smaller pool. It’s just a 1-block walk into the heart of town, and 2 blocks to the beach.
