Other than Dakbla, the little storefront places geared to backpackers in Kontum (there are a few near the Family Hotel) aren't worth it, and you're better off at a local pho (noodle soup) stand. Hoan Vu Restaurant (81 Nguyen Hue St., along the riverside road; tel. 060/386-2792) is a large, empty place glowing with neon lights, the kind of joint that's popular with big wedding parties and Vietnamese groups, but not very inviting for individual diners. This one's really basic -- okay, it's downright grungy -- but look for Huong Hue, a little open-air place across from the Dakbla Restaurant along Nguyen Hue; they serve rice meals for next to nothing (about 50ยข a plate).
