Attractions

Plovdiv's meandering layout, dead-end streets, and dearth of signs require a flexible approach for any walking tour of the architectural-historical reserve. Old Plovdiv is a wonderful place to get lost; just make sure you're armed with a camera to chart your journey. Plovdiv's steep, cobbled Old Town streets (Ulitsa Knyaz Seretelev, Ulitsa Tsanko Lavrenov, especially) are lined with gorgeous National Revival houses. Try to cover a few of these, but go wherever your eyes lead you: A street like Kiril Nektariev has no museums, but boasts some of the best facades. You easily can cover its prettiest streetscapes in a morning, unless you're keen to examine a few of the opulent interiors or view the artworks housed in some of these splendid houses. In that case, plan a full day or two.
