Frommer's Review
On an 80-acre (32-hectare) tract of land on the coast, this is the most glamorous hotel in southern Puerto Rico. At the western end of Avenida Santiago de los Caballeros, it's about a 15-minute drive from the center of Ponce. Designed like a miniature village, with turquoise-blue roofs, white walls, and lots of tropical plants, ornamental waterfalls, and gardens, it welcomes both conventioneers and individual travelers. The main pool behind the hotel is spacious and stretches like a wave through towering palms and gardens. The 28-hole golf course is the best in the area, and there's another set of pools by its clubhouse. The small beach is pretty, but it does not compare with those to the west. There's a large playground for kids and two children's pools. A trolley shuttles guests around the property, and the city government Chu Chu Tren provides transportation to downtown Ponce and the nearby La Guancha boardwalk area.
Accommodations contain tropically inspired furnishings, ceiling fans, and terraces or balconies. All the rooms are medium to spacious, with adequate desk and storage space, tasteful fabrics, good upholstery, and fine linens. The ground-floor rooms are the most expensive. Each is equipped with a generous tiled bathroom with a tub/shower combination.
The food is the most sophisticated and refined on the south coast of Puerto Rico. All the waiters seem to have an extensive knowledge of the menu and will guide you through some exotic dishes -- of course, you'll find familiar fare, too.
