Frommer's Review
On an 80-acre (32-hectare) tract of land right on the beach at the western end of Avenida Santiago de los Caballeros, about a 10-minute drive from the center of Ponce, this is the most glamorous hotel in southern Puerto Rico. Designed like a miniature village, with turquoise-blue roofs, white walls, and lots of tropical plants, ornamental waterfalls, and gardens, it welcomes conventioneers and individual travelers alike. Each unit has tropically inspired furnishings, ceiling fans, and a terrace or balcony. All the rooms are medium-size to spacious, with adequate desk and storage space, tasteful fabrics, good upholstery, and fine linens. Each is equipped with a generous tiled bathroom with a tub-and-shower combo. The ground-floor rooms are the most expensive.
The food at one of the hotel's restaurants, La Cava, is the most sophisticated and refined on the south coast of Puerto Rico. All the waiters seem to have an extensive knowledge of the menu and will guide you through some exotic dishes -- of course, you'll find familiar fare, too. For less expensive buffet dining, you can also patronize La Terraza, which serves the best lunch buffet in Ponce.
