Frommer's Review
Airy and panoramic but showing signs of wear, and accessible via one of the most dismayingly potholed and badly maintained access roads in Jamaica (locally, they refer to it as "adventurous"), Fern Hill occupies 8 forested hectares (20 acres) high above the coastline, attracting a primarily German, British, and Canadian tour-group clientele, as well as many vacationing Jamaican families. The nearest beach is San San, a deeply rutted 10-minute drive east of the hotel. There's no shuttle but the reception desk can arrange for a taxi to take you there. This is a far less elegant choice than its main competitor, Goblin Hill , though you can almost always get cheaper rates here. Technically classified as a private club, it's comprised of a colonial-style clubhouse and three outlying villas, plus a comfortable annex at the bottom of the hill. The accommodations come in a wide range of configurations, including standard rooms, junior suites, spa suites, and villas with cooking facilities. All units are highly private and attract many honeymooners.
