Frommer's Review
It's almost worth making a special detour to P.E. to stay at what is rather presumptuously called a "country house" -- 4 minutes from the airport, Hacklewood is very much in the heart of the city, and home to any VIPs visiting P.E. Built in 1898, the gracious Victorian manor house has been artfully converted, with none of the generous spaces of the original home compromised. If you have a thing for bathrooms, these are world class. Each is bigger than most hotel rooms and is furnished with the same care as the bedrooms: Victorian bathtubs are set in the center of the room, with comfortable seating provided in deep armchairs, should you wish to converse in comfort. The entire house is furnished with beautiful period pieces, with colors and fabrics evincing exquisite taste, and the staff is eager to please. The four-course dinners (R200/$28/£14), with which P.E. romantics choose to celebrate special occasions, are presided over by Cordon Bleu-trained chef Bernice Viviere.
