Frommer's Review
Although not in the same category as Kwandwe, Samara, or Shamwari, this private game reserve, also near Grahamstown, is a great choice for beleaguered parents with young children. Mark's Camp leaves parents free to pursue their own game drives or relax at the pool while children are entertained by a specific program developed for kids 8 and under. From dawn, when the kids are taken to breakfast by their own full-time nanny (included in the price), they are kept busy with conservation projects, mini-game drives (in their own special game vehicle, and kept well away from potentially dangerous encounters), special picnics, and visits to the playground and sandpit. Early afternoon sees parents catch up on all the excitement of the day before the children's activities are again resumed for dinner. Evening is spent sitting in front of the campfire roasting marshmallows and listening to African bush safari stories before bedtime. For those who don't want to be disturbed by children, there are two additional camps, of which Treetops -- featuring spacious safari tented-style accommodations -- is the most exciting.
