Frommer's Review
The Maine Historical Society's "history campus" on Congress Street includes the austere brick Wadsworth-Longfellow House (1785), built by Gen. Peleg Wadsworth, father of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It's furnished in an early-19th-century style, with many pieces of Longfellow family furniture. Adjacent is the Maine History Gallery, in a garish postmodern building. Exhibits here explore the rich texture of Maine history, and the library is outstanding.
