Although Oregon depends less and less on the timber industry with each passing year, this museum is still busy educating visitors about the importance of forest resources around the world. Step inside the huge wooden main hall, and you come face to bark with several large and very lifelike trees. Press a button at its base and you can pilot a video camera around the tree's branches. Pay an extra few dollars, and you can climb into a chairlift that lets you explore these same trees. In another exhibit, you can practice being a smoke jumper (firefighter), while in another area, you can go on a video raft ride. There are also interesting temporary exhibits staged here throughout the year, from photographic exhibits to displays of the woodworker's art.
