Frommer's Review
Built in 1912, The Benson exudes old-world sophistication and elegance. In the French baroque lobby, walnut paneling frames a marble fireplace, Austrian crystal chandeliers hang from the ornate plasterwork ceiling, and a marble staircase allows for grand entrances. These are the poshest digs in Portland, and guest rooms are luxuriously furnished in a plush Euro-luxe styling. Rooms vary considerably in size, and most of the deluxe kings are particularly spacious. However, the corner junior suites, which are large and have lots of windows, are the hotel's best deal. All the guest rooms have Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Bathrooms, unfortunately, are small and have little shelf space. The hotel's London Grill is well known for its Sunday brunch. Just off the lobby, there's El Gaucho steakhouse; in the Lobby Bar, there's live jazz in the evenings.
