Frommer's Review
The Heathman has long been considered one of Portland's top hotels, but in many ways this hotel suffers from an identity crisis. An incongruous beefeater doorman ushers guests into a minimalist lobby that is adjacent to an utterly traditional "tea court," which itself is adjacent to the hotel's French restaurant, which is owned by the McCormick and Schmick's restaurant chain and is decorated with Andy Warhol prints. Guest rooms, all recently redecorated, are theatrically done in a vaguely Art Deco motif that seems cluttered. All the table-top amenities and abundant pillows tend to make the rooms feel even smaller than they actually are, and the basic rooms are definitely small. If you decide to give this place a try, you'll get to choose your bed--feather bed, pillow-top, or Tempur-Pedic.
