Frommer's Review
Set upstairs from the lobby level of the also-recommended hotel , but with direct access from the ramparts which flank its edges, this is an absolutely superb venue for gracious dining, thanks partly to a staff who really knows what it's doing. The setting is a high-ceilinged sparsely furnished room dotted with contemporary art, with a wall of windows overlooking the waters of the Douro. The chefs have excellent credentials, and their cuisine is well crafted. Many of the dishes are light yet full of flavor, and some are impertinently inventive. Sample the codfish flavored with fresh herbs and served with freshly baked corn bread or the filet of sea bass with garlic-coated prawns and quick "seared" potatoes. Rice with morsels of tender duck appears on your plate with green asparagus and a horseradish cannelloni (you heard that right). The service is first-rate, as is the wine carte.
