Vila Baleira Thalassa

The island's premier hotel lies 4km (2 1/2 miles) from the center of Vila Baleira, opening onto a long, sandy beach with a playground and beach room. The largest on Porto Santo, the hotel is linked by an underground passage to an outdoor leisure area with pool and various drinking and eating facilities, as well as beach equipment. Vila Baleira Thalassa is linked by tunnel to the Baleira Thalassa & Spa, which boasts a gym and diving center.

The hotel itself contains restaurant, bars, shops, public lounges, and an indoor pool connected to a kiddie pool. The bedrooms, often furnished in wicker, are midsize and the best on the island (32 of the units are junior suites). Most of the airy bedrooms open onto private balconies overlooking the water.

The on-site Atlantic Restaurant in the main building serves only buffets, which are wide ranging in scope and cuisine, with a variety of regional and international specialties.
