James House ReviewWith an eclectic blend of antique and new furnishings, this grand 1889 Victorian sits atop the bluff overlooking Admiralty Inlet. The entry hall features a parquet floor and a big staircase climbing up to the second floor. In the two parlors are fireplaces that make the perfect gathering spot on a cool evening. The views from the upper front bedrooms are some of the best in town (ask for the Master Suite, which has a balcony, or the Chintz Room, which has a deck). You can even see Mount Rainier on a clear day. If you don't like climbing stairs, opt for one of the ground-floor suites or the Gardener's Cottage. An additional private bungalow, adjacent to the James House, is done in a contemporary style and has a water- and mountain-view. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
