Getting There
The best way to get to Porvoo is aboard either the M/S King or the MS J. L. Runeberg, which operate from May 15 to September 1 and depart from and return to Market Square in Helsinki daily. A round-trip requires about 3 to 3 1/4 hours each way, with a round-trip ticket priced at 32€ ($42) for adults and 15€ ($20) for children 3 to 12; under 3 free. En route, you'll have sweeping views over Helsinki's archipelago. For bookings and inquiries, contact J. L. Runeberg (tel. 019/524-33-31). Alternatively, buses depart from Helsinki's main bus terminal four or five times a day for Porvoo, requiring about an hour for the transfer, and charging between 8€ and 11€ ($10-$14) per person, each way. Visitor Information
The Porvoo Tourist Office is at Rihkamakatu 4, SF-06100 Porvoo (tel. 019/520-23-16; www.porvoo.fi). In summer, it's open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. After September 1, hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. The Porvoo Association of Tour Guides offers walking tours of the old town every summer between late June and early September, every Monday to Friday at 2pm. Priced at 6€ ($7.80) per adult, and free for persons under 17, they last for about an hour and originate in front of the tourist office.
