This is a delightful little nest, offering quiet and serenity. It was once the retreat of Napoleon's brother-in-law, the king of Naples, who was notorious for confiscating statuary and church art from the former occupants -- in this case, an order of Benedictine monks. The jasmine and bougainvillea are so profuse in its garden that they spill over the enclosing wall onto the arbors of the narrow street. The best (and most expensive) rooms are nos. 1 to 5 in the original 18th-century wing, which boasts high ceilings and antiques; the newer annex has smaller and less atmospheric rooms. Only the third-floor rooms have views of the sea. In summer, the hotel often offers classical music concerts on the patio.
