Hotels

Most visitors come to Potosí on a day trip from Sucre or Cochamaba; accommodations here are nothing special and many don't have heat (it gets really cold at night). Hotel Cima Argentum, Av. Villazon 239 (tel. 0102/6229-538; fax 0102/6122-603; www.hca-potosi.com), is situated about 6 blocks from the center of town, but it's worth the walk. Rooms are modern with colorful bedspreads; dark, clean carpets; and wood furniture. Hostal Santa Teresa, Calle Ayacucho 43 (tel. 0102/2622-5270; www.hotelsantateresa.com.bo), offers somewhat worn modern rooms with Wi-Fi right near the plaza. Hostal Colonial, Calle Hoyos 8 (tel. 0102/6224-809; fax 0102/6227-146; hcolonial_potosi@hotmail.com), is one of the best hotels in Potosí, but don't expect anything extraordinary.

The best restaurant in Potosí is El Fogón, Frías 58 (tel. 0102/622-4969; www.elfogon.com.bo), a corner bar and grill serving massive portions of steaks, pasta, and regional plates. For something lighter, stop in at Café la Plata, right on the plaza.
