Frommer's Review
The most tranquil and luxurious retreat in Potsdam today lies just a 15-minute drive from the center. In 1847, King Frederick William ordered the construction of this Bavarian-style chalet in a forest. Miraculously spared from the ravages of war, it has been successfully converted into an exceedingly comfortable residence of charm and grace. With its elegant atmosphere, it is the only luxury hotel in Potsdam and the only one that's rated five stars by the government. The spacious guest rooms are studies in design, comfort, and luxury, each with a first-rate bathroom with tub and shower. In the well-appointed Friedrich-Wilhelm Restaurant, a regional and international gourmet cuisine is offered. The restaurant is closed from January 2 to January 16 and July 17 to August 17. From the fireplace in winter to the panoramic terrace in summer, this is the way to live in Potsdam if you can afford it. Jogging trails shoot out in several directions through the woodland.
