One of the first restaurants in the marina, Porto Bello serves flavorful Italian dishes to the backdrop of docked sailboats and motor yachts. For starters, the fried calamari is delicately seasoned, and the grilled vegetable antipasto could easily serve as a full meal. Signature dishes include fusilli prepared with artichokes, black olives, lemon juice, basil, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese; and sautéed fish filet with white wine, spinach, and arugula. I love the lightly broiled butterfly shrimp served with spaghetti or, for a splurge, the pecan-crusted rack of French lamb. The elegant indoor dining room is air-conditioned, and there's also open-air seating with white linen tables. Porto Bello recently opened a second restaurant in Nuevo Vallarta (tel. 322/297-6719), next to the Mayan Palace.
