Vela Nera
In the village of Šišan, 5km (3 miles) east of Pula, this stylish hotel-restaurant occupies a converted farmhouse. The owner, Dušan Černjul, is a well-known Istrian chef, and many people come here specifically to eat in his award-winning ground floor restaurant. Upstairs there are 13 spacious rooms and suites, decorated with ultra-minimalist design. The emphasis is on white, with occasional splashes of green, blue, or purple as accents. The hotel opened in 2011 and is set in a lovely Mediterranean garden with a pool. It stays open all year.
