This Relais & Chateaux boutique resort of just 34 suites—each with private pool—lies on 30,000 landscape acres—an eco-trail wends past cliffs to a “Garden of Eden” lagoon at the base of a waterfall—nestled amid the greens of the as-yet-unfinished Mountain Golf Course. (Another Jack Nicklaus Signature course, the Punta Espada, is open nearby and was rated #1 in the Caribbean and Mexico by Golfweek.)

The spacious suites have a certain European elegance with Caribbean flair: chandeliers hang from high peaked wooden ceilings; curvaceous furnishings in shades of off-white are accented with a single candy-color theme.

Note that no rooms are actually on the hotel‘s small beach—which is a 3–5 minute ride away from golf cart, part of the Caletón Club to which all guests have access and which includes a beach bar, barbecue area, and two pools (one for kiddies).
