Frommer's Review
This is our favorite all-inclusive hotel in Punta Cana. It's one of the newest hotels at the resort, one of only four members of the same Spain-based hotels, and the kind of place where the kinks and errors of earlier, less sophisticated hotels have been ironed out and corrected. It's also the beneficiary of one of the most sophisticated designs in Punta Cana, permeated with stylish hints at Iberian antecedents that absolutely reek of the best aspects of creative contemporary design. The hotel's architecture seems to ripple and undulate from its entrance, past multiple and highly theatrical staircases, five different restaurants, one of which remains open through the long Caribbean night. The pools are spectacular, as is the beach. A complicated structure of add-on luxuries (spa packages, additional attention from the concierge staff, upgraded children's diversions) are available, and usually come with occupancy of somewhat upgraded accommodations.
The Paradisus Palma Real, after its inauguration in 2005, surpassed the glamour and allure of its slightly older (ca. 1996, 542-unit) sibling, the Paradisus Punta Cana, which lies about two miles away. Although both of the Paradisus hotels are desirable, we prefer the Paradisus Palma Real. In both hotels, most rooms have garden views, although some choice units open onto the ocean. Each comes with a tiled bathroom with tub or shower. Both hotels also offer more dining choices than any other along the coast -- every cuisine from French to Chinese, from Mexican to Japanese, along with international, Dominican, and American food specialties. Entertainment is diverse, ranging from a karaoke disco to an aqua bar to bars that often serve Dominican cigars with their drinks. Theme parties are big here, and there are live shows nightly.
