Frommer's Review
This is a sister lodge to El Pescador on Ambergris Caye. The comfortable private cabins and forested setting can be enjoyed by tourists of all stripes. The accommodations are 12 large individual bungalows, set on a high hillside of rich forest above the Río Grande. The bungalows feature cool red-tile floors, high-pitched ceilings, two queen-size beds with colorful Guatemalan bedspreads, and a large veranda with an excellent view and inviting hammock. There are large and ample windows that let in plenty of light and cross-ventilation if you decide to opt out of the air-conditioning. Meals are served family-style in the main dining room, and the large main lodge also has a bar and lounge area with a pool table, as well as a full-service and well-equipped tackle shop. The kidney-shaped pool has a broad and inviting stone deck area around it, and it's set on one of the highest points on the property, giving it excellent views all around. Eco-minded guided excursions, abounding with wildlife, include canoeing, kayaking and motorized boat adventures, snorkeling, diving, fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching and touring local Maya ruins. Nocturnal wildlife viewing tours are one of the highlights for many guests. Specialty guides are available for in-depth birding, fishing, SCUBA and archaeological tours.
