Frommer's Review
Just uphill from exit 4 off I-91, you can smell the aroma of Southern-style barbecue sizzling over flaming pits before you see it. This classic roadside joint, situated on a more or less empty lot next to a gas station, has a heap of charm despite itself. The self-serve restaurant consists of two blue school buses -- yes, you read that right, blue school buses -- plus a newer, open-sided shed for dining. Guests take their plunder to picnic tables scattered about the lot. Place your order, grab a seat, dig in, and enjoy. The wide price range is explained simply: small order of ribs: $4; slab: $20. In addition to the ribs, the barbecued chicken is surprisingly good, and so are the few side dishes available. Note that Curtis closes down and wisely packs up his grilling tools after foliage season and heads south, only to return faithfully like the geese each spring.
