Frommer's Review
A forerunner of the burgeoning Basse-Ville hotel scene, Le Priori provides a playful Art Deco ambience behind the somber facade of a 1726 house. Designer Philippe Starck inspired the original owners, who installed versions of his conical stainless-steel sinks in the bedrooms and sensual multi-nozzle showers in the small bathrooms. In four rooms, claw-foot tubs sit beside the queen-size beds, which are covered with duvets. New table lamps help enliven the formerly dim lighting. Suites have sitting rooms with wood-burning fireplaces, kitchens, and Jacuzzis, and several, including no. 10, are quite masculine, with brown walls in the bedroom, an animal skin rug, and fur throws. Several suites are up stairs with no elevator. Rooms face either the small street out front or the leafy inner courtyard. The inventive restaurant Toast!, off the lobby and in the courtyard in summer, draws good notices, including ours.
