Liquor and other spirits can only be sold in stores operated by this provincial agency. The SAQ outlets are virtual supermarkets of wines and spirits, with thousands of bottles in stock. The avenue Cartier outlet has about 20 kinds of imported beers. Québec's unique ice cider (cidre de glace), made from apples left on trees after the first frost, can be purchased here as well as at duty-free shops at the border. Look for the VQA logo, for Vintners Quality Alliance, on wines that have received the state seal of approval for quality. There is another SAQ outlet at the Château Frontenac.
