Fishing

Langara Fishing Adventures (tel. 800/668-7544 or 604/232-5532; www.langara.com) offers fishing packages with accommodations at two of the most exclusive lodges in western Canada. Geared toward those who want to be pampered, the outfitter picks up guests at Vancouver Airport and delivers them to Langara Island, just north of Graham Island. There are two lodges: the slightly more rustic Langara Fishing Lodge and the utterly upscale and opulent Langara Island Lodge. At both, rooms are luxurious, and the dining room serves expertly prepared Pacific Northwest dishes. Packages include air transport from Vancouver, lodging, meals, boats, tackle, weather gear, and freezing or canning of your catch. Guided fishing trips cost extra, as do whale-watching and heli-touring. Also available are fishing trips to even more remote fishing lodges in the Queen Charlottes. At Langara Fishing Lodge, rates start at C$3,895 for a 4-day trip; at Langara Island Lodge, 4 days cost from C$4,495. Packages are offered April to October.

For something more low-key, Naden Lodge, 1496 Kelkatla St., Masset (tel. 800/771-8933 or 250/626-3322; www.nadenlodge.bc.ca), offers B&B accommodations and guided fishing trips from a lovely location right above Masset's boat basin. Numerous charter operators can be found in Masset, Queen Charlotte, and Skidegate. Contact the Queen Charlotte Islands Visitor Info Centre (tel. 250/559-8316; www.qcinfo.ca) for suggestions.
