Frommer's Review
This little gem enjoys a spectacular position overlooking the Oued Bou Regreg, and is the friendliest maison d'hôte in Rabat. Though it's located at the end of the main street in the kasbah (taxis can drop you right outside the front door), peace and seclusion awaits behind the nondescript blue door. Pauline de MaziÃres's Dar Baraka ("luck") has only two bedrooms; both are light and breezy, with original artwork and antique furnishings. The bathroom in the spacious double has kept its ivory tiling and original bath with 1950s fittings, while the compact twin combines white Italian marble with traditional zellij, and has a beautiful terrace opening to the split-level garden. An outside staircase leads to the garden, where there's also a large living room with fireplace, TV/DVD, and Internet/Wi-Fi.
Delicious lunches and dinners can be taken here or on one of the two terraces. An Andalusian terrace of citrus trees and bougainvillea looks out to the river and across to Salé. A second terrace is shaded by ancient fig trees and also has views. Underneath the house is a vaulted cellar, where cannonballs recall the city's pirate past. Pauline or one of her staff are on hand at any time of day or night, and will even assist with shopping excursions. The rooms can be booked separately, but together are a great option for families. A free basket of fruit and bottled water is offered upon arrival.
