Frommer's Review
The owners of this popular restaurant are known for their sense of humor and good food. Despite a location on an uninspired street corner in downtown Raleigh, in a blue-sided cottage adjacent to the homeless shelter, it's one of the most sought-after dining spots in town. You'll eat behind lace curtains in an appealingly cluttered warren of small, parlorlike rooms that evoke the home of someone's genteel Southern grandmother. Menu items change with the inspiration of the chef but might include baked oysters with fresh spinach and bacon-flavored hollandaise, sautéed chicken livers with Madeira sauce, grilled pork tenderloin with caramelized onions and balsamic vinegar, and seared tenderloin of beef with mashed potatoes and port-wine sauce. Don't miss the fresh apple cobbler for dessert.
