The older but more obviously modernized of these two hotels is the Giordano, built in the late 1700s as a private manor house of the family that runs it today. In the 1970s, the owners bought the neighboring 19th-century Villa Maria, and the two operate as quasi-independent hotels with shared facilities. Accommodations in the Villa Maria are generally better than those in the Giordano and usually contain high ceilings and antiques and offer sea views. However, a few of the rooms at Villa Maria, rented to late arrivals when the other units are booked, are rather cramped with less-than-adequate mattresses. The Giordano's rooms have garden views and reproductions of traditional furniture. The beach is a 15-minute walk along ancient paths (you can also take a public bus from Ravello's central square every hour).
