Frommer's Review
Disguised as Harriet Brown, Greta Garbo (and other luminaries) once used this 11th-century property as a hideaway. Over the years it had grown seedy until Orient-Express took it over and gave the whitewashed structure a complete overhaul to the tune of $40 million. It stands atop a 351m (1,150-ft.) limestone cliff in a dazzling position overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. The infinity pool is the most dramatic along the coast, and the frescoes burst with color. Designer Federico Forquet brought renewed life and luxury to the deluxe rooms, adding such extras as bronze lamps and Neapolitan-style furnishings. The best living and most expensive here is the Jackie O suite (named after guess who), with a terrace, private pool, and garden. Gore Vidal stayed in room no. 9 while writing the camp classic of all time, Myra Breckinridge, made into the worst film ever shot, starring Mae West. The terrace is framed by Norman arches, and the garden is filled with pergolas, oleander, and wisteria. Bathrooms are elegant, with beautiful vanity basins. The hotel's fishing boat takes visitors on free explorations of the Amalfi Coast. The terrace restaurant is the most dramatic in Ravello, and traditional Neapolitan dishes are a specialty.
