Active Pursuits

Biking -- With its flat terrain and shady streets, Rehoboth is ideal for bicycling. Bikes are allowed on the boardwalk between 5 and 10am from May 15 to September 15, and anytime off season. Bikes to Go, 174 Rehoboth Ave. (tel. 302/227-7600), has cruisers, hybrids, tandems, and baby seats and trailers. Wheels Bicycle Shop, 4100 Hwy. 1 (tel. 302/227-6807), rents a variety of cruising bikes. Generally, rentals at all shops range from $6 to $12 per hour and $20 to $45 per day, depending on the bike.

A new 6-mile Junction and Breakwater Trail connects Rehoboth and Lewes near the water's edge. The crushed stone trail is suitable for walkers, joggers, bikers, and wheelchairs; motorized vehicles are prohibited. To access the scenic trail, find the trailhead behind the Tanger Outlets shopping area on the east side or Route 1. Just outside of Lewes, the trail can be accessed from Wolf Neck Road off Route 1, where there's a parking lot and visitors' services. A map is available at www.destateparks.com/Activities/trails/maps/JunctionBreakwater(webmap).pdf.

Golf -- The public 9-hole course at Heritage Inn & Golf Club, is on Route 1 in Rehoboth (tel. 800/669-9399 or 302/644-0600; www.heritageinnandgolf.com).

Tennis -- There are public courts at Rehoboth City Courts, on Surf Avenue between Rehoboth Beach and North Shores; at Rehoboth Junior High School, on State Street; and in Dewey Beach on the bay at McKinley Street.

Watersports -- Bay Sports, 111 Dickinson St., Dewey Beach (tel. 302/227-7590), rents kayaks, pedal boats, sailboats, Hobie catamarans, and jet skis by the half-hour, hour, or day. A kayak or pedal boat goes for $15 to $25 an hour. Hobie cats are $50 to $65, depending on size. Stop by DB Parasailing, Route 1 at Dickinson Street (tel. 302/227-9507), to go parasailing. Reservations are recommended; rides cost $60 to $70. The Dewey Blaster, Route 1 and Dickinson Street (tel. 877/8BLASTER), is a nine-seat jet boat that offers 30-minute Rehoboth Bay excursions that go faster than the usual tour boat. Tickets are $25 to $30 and reservations are recommended.
