South of Scarborough Beach, this restaurant is deservedly the most popular on this stretch of shore. Partly it's the congenial staff, partly the terraces overlooking the sea. But the greatest share of credit goes to the stellar interpretations of the Spanish tapas tradition and such favorites as paella Valenciana. Authenticity doesn't head the list of the kitchen's concerns: The irresistible fried calamari are tossed with very un-Spanish hot peppers. Do sample the espinacas a la Catalana -- spinach sautéed with garlic, raisins, and pine nuts. Arrive early to avoid the nightly rush.
