If it's time to stop for the night, for dinner, or for a spectacular Sunday brunch (reservations essential), watch for the entrance to this venerable inn off U.S. 1, about 6 miles east of Westerly. Parts of the main building date to 1810, and a genteel tone prevails. Several bedrooms have fireplaces, decks, or both. A shuttle takes guests to the private beach a mile away. A cautiously creative restaurant and honored wine cellar round out the picture, sullied only by uneven service; dinner entrees top out at a reasonable $25. Children are welcome. The inn and restaurant are open 365 days a year.
