White-Water Rafting
You don't have to trek to the mountains to ride the rapids, for Richmond Raft Company, 4400 E. Main St., at Water Street (tel. 800/540-7238 or 804/222-7238; www.richmondraft.com), offers trips on the James through the heart of Richmond. Water levels aren't always predictable, but the James is usually high and fast enough from March to November, with spring best for fast water.
