Next to the newly renovated Port of Rio area, the former headquarters of the Banco do Brasil were transformed in the 80s into a cultural center. It is not only a space for art expositions, but it also has a theater to stage plays and concerts, a cinema, an excellent art library and bookstore, a coffee shop, restaurant, and tearoom. There is a permanent art collection while temporary exhibitions vary from internationally known artists to special themed ones, ranging from British Punk culture to Islamic Art. Displays are in both Portuguese and English. There’s always something interesting going on at the CCBB, and it's undeniably worth a visit. Moreover, entrance is free (except for the theater or cinema). Check the CCBB website or local newspapers for a complete listing.
