Frommer's Review
A lovely heritage building, the Olinda is finally getting a much-needed makeover. The lobby has been transformed into an elegant salon with a restaurant and piano bar. Elevators have been upgraded to the 21st century. Room renovations are underway. Unfortunately the make-over crew is approaching the renos in a bit of a haphazard way. The Ocean view suite, room no. 1201, has been completely overhauled and is now jaw-dropping gorgeous. The furniture is elegant, the room spacious with a veranda overlooking Copa beach and the bedroom a dream of lovely white linen. Alas, so far this is the only one of its kind. On the third floor, the renovation project has tossed the dark colonial furniture and brought in lighter woods, soothing pale colors, and stylish furniture. These rooms are very pleasant. Rooms on the 4th, 7th, and 12th floors have received only a fresh paint job and new carpets and curtains (a significant improvement!). Rates are the same whether a room has been revamped or not, so it pays to ask for an upgraded one. So far room nos. 301, 302, and 303 have been fully made-over. More will hopefully follow soon.
