Entry into this busy, casual restaurant is through a market whose chiller cases are stuffed with excellent cold cuts, cakes, and chocolates, its shelves packed with wines and beers from around the world. Likewise, the lengthy menu spans the globe from Chesapeake crab cakes to Spanish paella, from Italian veal Parmigiano to Brazilian moqueca. All of it is good (although I prefer the moqueca at Carlos's) and served in prodigious portions. More than 20 sandwiches and 15 salads appear, and vegetarians have half a dozen choices. One side of the big room is devoted to a sports bar, where musicians appear on weekends. Montano's is very popular with locals of every age and taste.
