Mountain Lake Hotel Review

Surrounded by 2,600 acres, this rustic mountaintop resort consists of a stately, rough-cut-stone lodge with clusters of small, white-clapboard summer cottages nearby. The lobby has a massive fireplace. A stone archway separates the lobby from the adjoining bar and lounge. The spacious, stone-walled dining room has large windows offering panoramic lake views -- a romantic evening setting. More than 20 types of accommodations are available in the main hotel, cottages, and the Blueberry Ridge Complex (units in the latter are more sizeable and modern, and they're open year-round). The popular parlor suites have Jacuzzis and fireplaces, and some rooms offer lake views. Dark-wood Chippendale-reproduction furnishings give the decor a traditional look. Cottages are more simply furnished, although guests enjoy kitchens and porches with rockers. Chestnut Lodge is a three-story gray-clapboard building set on the side of a hill. Rooms here are decorated in country style, with fireplaces and balconies. Your unit will not have a TV, but there's plenty of swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and tennis to keep you busy.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; bikes; children's programs; Jacuzzi; outdoor pool; sauna; tennis court; watersports equipment/rentals

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
