Tivoli, known as Tibur to the ancient Romans, is 32km (20 miles) east of Rome on Via Tiburtina, about an hour's drive with traffic. If you don't have a car, take Metro Line B to the end of the line, the Rebibbia station. After exiting the station, board a CoTral bus (tel. 06-57035703) for the trip the rest of the way to Tivoli. Hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 3 to 5pm, and Saturday 9am to 7pm.
