Frommer's Review
Named after one of the gates of early medieval Rome (Arco di San Pancrazio), which rises nearby, Antico Arco is on Janiculum Hill not far from Trastevere and the American Academy. It's a hip restaurant with a young, stylish clientele. It's run by three investors (a married couple, Maurizio and Patrizia, and their friend Domenico) who are often on-site, making sure that food and service flow smoothly. Carefully created dishes include herb-laden onion flan with Parmesan sauce, and a palate-awakening truffle and rabbit-meat salad with sliced Parmesan and honey sauce. A bitter orange sauce and sesame-flavored chutney are terrific foils for roasted duck. Macaroni carbonara, tagliolini con bottarga (a Sardinian dish composed of pasta flavored with fish roe), and spaghetti served with pecorino romano cheese, heavenly fried zucchini blossoms, and fresh-ground pepper are our favorite pastas here.
