Frommer's Review
This hotel combines a historic core (in this case, a palazzo built around 1870) with modern luxuries; together these elements create a very comfortable and appealing ambience. The original builders, an aristocratic Venetian family, installed ceiling frescoes showing the heavens in azure blue on some of the ceilings. Some of the striking combinations of the original core with unusual modern paintings are showstoppers. Opened as a hotel in 1999, the Empire Palace is classified four stars by the Italian government. Most bedrooms are quite large. All have marble bathrooms and conservative cherry-wood furnishings.
The building's courtyard is outfitted with a splashing fountain and a verdant garden. Immediately adjacent, with tables spilling into the courtyard during fine weather, is the Aureliano Restaurant, outfitted with Murano chandeliers.
