Lying just 100m (328 ft.) from St. Peter's Basilica, this hotel is ideal for those who want to spend a lot of time at the Vatican Museums. The location is in what was once the medieval burg of "Borgo Pio" close to the Passetto, the wall that separated the Vatican from Castel San Angelo. In 1574, the present hotel became the home of the famous architect Domenico Fontana, who was Pope Sixtus V's chief architect and whose masterpiece was the Palazzao Lateranense. All the bedrooms have been recently restored, and many rest under beamed ceilings. The owners call them "cozy"; you might find them cramped. But each is modernized and comfortable, with a small shower-only bathroom. The Bramante has some style, much comfort, and a location with few other hotels. Extra services include a private limo taking passengers to and from the airport.
