Frommer's Review
If you'd like to experience Rome the way visitors such as Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks did in the 1920s, head for this monument to Art Deco. In the heart of Rome, near Piazza del Popolo, this hotel first opened its doors in 1925, and it's been receiving visitors ever since. In fair weather, breakfast is served in the garden or on the rooftop garden. Bedrooms in the older section are a bit chintzy, but the newer wing has brighter, fresher accommodations. All of the original floors, doors, and bathroom fixtures in this newer section were recently refurbished. Bathrooms are a bit small but immaculately maintained, each with a shower. Rooms are reached by taking a birdcage elevator. Amazingly, after all these years, Locarno remains relatively unknown and rarely makes an appearance in a guidebook.
