Frommer's Review
Following a chain format established in Negril, this latest beachfront Hedonism bills itself as a "truly active (and slightly wicked!) vacation." Though this branch of Hedonism isn't as rowdy and raunchy as the Negril branch, and it utterly lacks the Negril branch's long-established self-image as an early outpost of defiantly extroverted sexual liberation -- it's a little more serene and isolated from the action in town -- it's still for the serious party person who likes to drink all night, hang out at the beach all day, and go wild at those toga parties. Set on 6 hectares (15 acres) of landscaped gardens on the eastern end of Runaway Bay, it features a Jamaican-Georgian motif of clapboard-sided colonial buildings gussied up with gables, fretwork, verandas with elaborate balustrades, and a strong sense of symmetry along both parallel and perpendicular lines. Hedonism III has its own private, slightly rocky beach stretching for some 182m (600 ft.) -- part of it is often nude. It lies a 15-minute drive east of Paradise Beach and a 10-minute walk west of Cardiff Hall Beach.
Bedrooms -- with ocean views from all rooms -- are roomy and freshly decorated, with Jamaica's first-ever block of "swim-up" rooms. All swim-up rooms feature large marble tub-and-shower bathrooms with Jacuzzis and CD players. Single guests are paired up with a roommate of the same sex, or have to pay a single supplement.
The food is quite decent -- everything from Italian to Japanese to Jamaican. There is even a disco with a four-story water slide! The resort also offers Jamaica's only circus workshop that features a flying trapeze, juggling, a trampoline "clinic," and various unicycle and bike-balancing acts. It's presented Monday to Saturday.
Facilities: 5 restaurants; 6 bars; 3 large pools; 3 tennis courts; fitness center; 3 Jacuzzis; sauna; game room; 24-hr. room service; nonsmoking rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility; disco; basketball court; ice-skating rink; rock-climbing; volleyball; kayaks; sailing; scuba diving; snorkeling; water-skiing; windsurfing.
