Where to Stay & Eat in Ataco

Ataco booms on the weekend with locals coming from the capital and Sonsonante. For this reason, many hotels and restaurants are open on weekends only. Hotel Villa de Santo Domingo (1 Av. Norte, #6 in front of the Casa de la Cultura; tel. 503/2450-5242) is a good midrange choice offering an 11-room hacienda-style hotel around a main courtyard with a small restaurant and comfortable $25-to-$35 rooms. On Friday and Saturday only, you can also stay at the well-known, but slightly overrated La Posada de Don Oli (1a Av. Sur #6; tel. 503/2450-5155; www.la-posada-de-don-oli.blogspot.com). This half-private home and half-hotel has a restaurant and three standard rooms ($28 per night) set around a courtyard. Ask for one of the upstairs rooms with a balcony for the best deal.
