Located at the intersection of tourist action and local hangouts, this beautifully appointed hotel bathed in warm gold and red boasts amenities and luxury not usually available at a boutique urban hotel. The stunning lobby is a registered historic landmark and features intricately painted and carved ceilings and the original 1926 chandeliers. At press time, plans were on track for a full (but gradual—the hotel won’t close) renovation to be completed in early 2018. Request a room with a view—rooms on higher floors boast views from Union Square to Twin Peaks. While there is no room service, the adjoined Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s a fun place to grab a beer—they have 18 on tap—or dinner, where upscale bar bites and progressive American cuisine are served tapas-style. There’s even a late-night menu, so you surely won’t go hungry, especially if you indulge in their Mighty Duck Poutine.
