The highly curated drink menu at this Haight Street bar is divided into two parts: one pays homage to the classic cocktail canon and the other offers inventive, new-school concoctions you can’t get anywhere else. Gin lovers who need a pick-me-up will love the “Nine Volt”—gin mixed with green tea and mint makes for a refreshing buzz, while the white Szechuan pepper leaves a slightly tingly mouth-feel. Another creative favorite is “Vasco de Gama,” which blends Islay Scotch and Buffalo Trace bourbon with an apple syrup spiked with garam masala spices. The heavily tattooed bartenders do well by such classics as Manhattans and Old Fashioneds, too. The surprisingly good bar food has made name for itself, prompting the owners to expand the kitchen and seating space next door. The menu is in flux and relies on seasonality but the house-cured salmon and bone marrow are main-stay musts!
